This once tired old 1940’s home has had a stunning renovation and now is updated to today's way of life and completely functional again! The old brick home had such lovely character from the moment you stepped in the front yard. The red bricks were recently tuck-pointed and the porch had great feature brick work. Throughout the old house were gorgeous jarrah floorboards in brilliant condition and traditional high splayed skirting boards. The original pendants in the bedrooms were too good to throw away and replace so were just cleaned up and fitted with brighter energy saving LED globes. The builder Distinct Renovations and the building designer Brett from Anthony and Associates wanted to ensure they held on to the true character features of the home and replicated these as much as possible throughout the new extended part of the home to the rear. The home now consists of 4 bedrooms 2 bathrooms and a powder room. The decision was made to go with matt black fixtures and fittings through out and similar tile choices to make it a consistent and flowing renovation. The original 2 bed 1 bath home had the floors sanded back and every room re painted. The bathroom was completely gutted with the bath being taken out and replaced with a semi frame less shower screen creating more space to move about in the small space. The bedroom to the front on the right had a new ceiling rose installed as the original ceiling had been replaced years back and not restored to its original glory. Also, the old kitchen was converted into a new second living space, the old jarrah floorboards under the kitchen were in great condition and just needed to be sanded and polished. A lovely glass pendant was hung from the ceiling to give it a touch of modernity as you begin your way through to the new extension zone. The old sleep out was demolished as this had a sloping ceiling and didn’t tie in with the plan for the rear, whereby we created a large skillion roofed home extension. The rear home extension more than doubled the size of the original home. There was a subtle contrast from old to new which was created by exposing the original brick wall of the exterior and painting it a monument black to tie in with the colour pallet of the rest of the home. Walking into the extension you are greeted by a fully functioning bench seat large enough for almost the whole family to enjoy its comfort in the sun! The bench seats wall is a large fixed panel window which looks out over a frangipani tree and succulent garden in the courtyard. The north facing block allows plenty of sunlight into this space and creates a lovely little sanctuary- the perfect place for a cuppa and a book! The extension flows down a new hallway of polished concrete floor and off to the left if the new laundry with ample space including custom cabinetry and plenty of room for doing the washing. The powder room is off the laundry, right along side the door that leads out to the courtyard and the drying space. The master bedroom is off the right of the hallway, as you walk into the bedroom there is a soft feeling underfoot of luxurious carpet. Looking up there is a modern matt black fan and to the side of the bed are two heritage glass pendants dropping down. There is no need for a bedhead in this room as there is a feature wall made from vertical Innova Duragroove boards halfway to bed height and painted in Dulux Lexicon, then navy-blue paint up the top creating a contrast between the two colours. The master bedroom suite is some what of a hotel room with his and her walk-in robes and a gorgeous oasis style bathroom with a free-standing bath which overlooks a purpose-built garden room to the outside, all for the owners to relax away next to a green oasis! Just heaven! The shower is a semi frameless matt black framed shower screen with matt black fixtures and fittings through out including the mirror frames. The choice of floor tiles through out this home is consistent and was a great choice from Ceramic Tile Supplies here in Perth. The feature floor tile pays homage to the age of the home while also creating a modern look with the 300*600mm matt white wall tiles and a subtle feature wall of homemade style subway tiles along the rear wall of the ensuite. Continuing down the hallway the polished concrete shapes the whole open plan living space and purpose-built study nook. The living space has a recycled brick feature wall and highlight windows which emit all the northern sunlight into the open plan living space. The meals area has a large fixed panel window which overlooks a lush palm garden. The kitchen has plenty of storage with a large island bench with sink and integrated dishwasher along with decent sized breakfast bar. Off to the left on the island is the bi fold servery window with free-flowing bench top out into the alfresco area creating a great indoor-outdoor space. To the right of the kitchen is a generous sized scullery with large pantry, more bench space and an extra sink. The scullery door also has access to outside which has a purpose-built veggie garden for the chef of the house! From the meals area the stacker doors open on to the alfresco living space. The alfresco area flooring is a slight contrast to the polished concrete indoors with a white and black- salt and pepper mix -aggregate which has been honed to create a slip proof entertaining space. The alfresco is enclosed enough to keep the rain out but open enough to let the sunlight and warmth in. There is a TV recess on the wall with aluminium louvres to let the winter sun in and keep the rain out. The exterior of the home has been completely transformed with no stone un turned. Fully landscaped gardens with reticulation. The roof has been cleaned up and re coated in a monument grey colour while the walls have been painted in a lovely crisp white colour.
This complete house transformation is thanks to the below suppliers:
The cabinetry is made from Polytec laminate and colour choices were Angora Oak Woodmatt for feature doors and Polar White for other doors and robes Distinct Renovations managed to complete this whole renovation in under 4 months, the reason we were able to do this is due to the size of our company. We choose to stay small and have no intention of being a big builder.
