Greenwood Granny Flat Extension

Debbie and Mike the owners of this home approached us with a briefing to build a granny flat extension on to their existing duplex home. Extending their home was the best option for them, due the size of their block and the existing home size, as appose to building a detached granny flat in the back garden. 

The owners had recently renovated their home and wanted to ensure that the extension would emulate their existing heritage style renovation.  With the help of Subiaco Restorations custom made timber windows and doors, and our experienced carpenters we managed to do so quite successfully.

The extension was built on to the front of the home using timber frame construction. It consists of a main bedroom with kitchenette, a generous sized custom walk in robe and an ensuite which features white sub way tiles. The fixtures and fittings in the ensuite were selected carefully by the owners to tie in with the heritage look.

The roof was matched with existing tiles to the main home and a bull nose veranda roof was constructed over a timer deck which wraps across the front and around the far side of the extension to give the home a lovely heritage style façade and outdoor zone for both the owners and the new occupant of the granny flat to relax on. ​

In the case of Debbie and Mike this “Granny Flat” held true to its name as the purpose of this extension was to create a home for Debbie’s mother who had relocated from interstate to move in.
A timber staircase with heritage style timber balustrading was constructed in the middle of the deck flowing down to the front garden which enabled separate access to the home. To finish off the home the owners opted for a white picket fence which did a great job of making the home look true to its heritage style.

This extension was constructed with no disruption to the owner’s everyday lives, they continued to live in the home as normal with no noise or mess complaints. This due to the final job that was completed being installation of the door connecting the old home to the new.
This extension took just over 4 months to complete from DA approval. Timing is everything when building, and we ensure at Distinct Renovations that every job runs on time.
